Hello!

I'm glad you've come to my About Me Page.  Grab a cup of coffee or tea, and I'll tell you a wee bit about myself.

Here's the short version:

My husband and I have been married since 1981.  We built our home "from scratch" on 160 wooded acres in northern Wisconsin  We homeschooled our two children from pre-school through high school and during that time I was also very involved with various leadership roles with homeschool families in our community.  I have been coaching and mentoring homeschool moms and Christian women since January of 2003.

And the long version:

I grew up in northern Minnesota in a beautiful city on the tip of Lake Superior - Duluth MN. My maiden name was Charmaine " Charlie " Lafontaine and I graduated from Duluth Cathedral High School. After attending a one year bible school, I met and married my wonderful husband of 26 years.  In 1984, we built our house on 44 wooded acres in northern Wisconsin. We now have aquired 160 acres around us and every day, when I look out the window at our wild woods and beaver pond, I thank the Lord that I've been able to live here, raise our children and homeschool in such a fantastic place. (see picture below)

Both of our children have now graduated from our homeschool.  Our 22 year old son has his own taxidermy business and is also in a plumbing apprenticeship program. He was married to Morgan in May, 2008.  Our 21 year old daughter has studied Interior Decorating and continues to play the fiddle and study dance.  She is a floral designer at a local flower shop.  Homeschooling was a fantastic experience for our whole family and we wouldn’t trade it for the world!

For the majority of our homeschooling years, I was the leader of our local homeschool support group.  I have also offered and taught many courses to groups of homeschoolers such as: drawing, art history, logic, Shakespeare, ballet appreciation, dance, nature study and various one time events.  I have hosted writing workshops and coached an all-homeschool Odyssey of the Mind team.

In addition to homeschooling, I enjoy praise & worship dance (see picture at left)  as well as contra dancing and Cape Breton step dancing. I love reading, gardening, music, church activities, computers, time with friends and historical re-enactment of the Fur Trade Era. (To see pictures of our re-enactment experince click on the Photo Album link to the left of this page).

We are very active members of our non-denominational Christian church.  We are founding members and have attended the same church for 28 years.  My husband has been an elder for many years and I have participated in countless church programs and activities including Sunday School, Worship Dance Team Leader & Resident Personal Coach.

How I Became a Life Coach

Coaching Certification from Coach Training AllianceAs I began nearing the end of my official homeschool career, I started to ask the Lord what was next for me.  How could I continue to serve Him and use the gifts he has given me?  It wasn't long before he showed me that personal life coaching ( and especially with homeschooling moms) was the direction He wanted me to go.  I had been 'unofficially' coaching homeschool moms for many years so it was just a matter of making it more official and finding a way to offer my services to more people.  I enrolled in a Coaching Certification Course through Coach Training Alliance and launched my coaching practice in January of 2003.  This website is a result of many hours of training and seeking the Lord for the best way to get the word out about my coaching.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me.  I'd love to get to know you as well!  Email me ( wistad@chibardun.net ) and we'll schedule a time for a free no-obligation sample coaching session.  This session is truly a no-pressure deal.  You see, even if you don't continue with coaching after the free session, it still helps me out because you will better understand what coaching is and will then tell your friends about it.  So, don't be shy and don't feel like you will be pressured to continue.  We'll have a good talk and I guarantee you'll gain something from it.

Blessings on your day,

Charmaine
